If your handicap is: 20 through 29, you cannot take more than an 8. If your handicap is: 30 through 39, you cannot take more than 9. And if your handicap is: 40 or more, you cannot take more than a 10. Check your scorecard before you enter your score into the handicap system to make sure it's correct according to these guidelines. ==================================================== Golf Tip: Two Shots - Spread The Distance ==================================================== On a two shot decision - try spreading the distance between shots. When faced with a distance decision that requires "two shots", most medium to high handicap players try to maximize the distance with the first shot, leaving themselves as short a distance on the second as possible. What this does is place pressure to "swing for distance" on the first shot which often causes them to swing beyond their natural flexibility range...the net result is often a miss hit of that shot. When faced with a situation where you know you cannot reach the target with one shot, then make a "two shot decision". Let's say you face a 240 yards distance to the hole. What are your options? Many would reach into the bag for a 3 wood to be followed by a 40-50 yard wedge, both are difficult shots. One is a long wood, the other is a shot range that many golfers do not practice. Here's a better play: 170 yard 4 iron/hybrid followed by 3/4-full wedge. Or how about this: 140 yard 7 iron followed by 110 yard 9 iron? When you look at the last two options there is no stress to swing for distance on any of the club choices, which will improve the consistency of those shots and make them more likely to succeed. Try it, you'll like it! Enjoy, Tom
