Tom's Featured Tip: Crossover Tip - Power Posing

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties .... well, you know what to do!

I had been mulling over a few ideas for this weeks newsletter, but I put them on hold for this tidbit of information that I was exposed to in Chicago last weekend.

In my life, I've had a broad range of experience in the workforce besides golf. As such, I've often discovered crossover tips from one industry to another. I've frequently attended seminars on one specific topic that gave me a great idea for application in another area of my life.

That happened to me last weekend when I was attending a three day training course for my other business. During the training, I was exposed to an intriguing concept called Power Posing that has a direct application in golf.

The short of it is that if you get somewhere before you have to enter a stressful situation - golf competition, a job interview, a presentation that you have to conduct - and put yourself in a power pose posture for two minutes, you can configure your brain to cope the best in that situation. Get your testosterone up. Get your cortisol down.

I couldn't do the subject justice with my words, so take a few minutes and watch this video clip by social psychologist Amy Cuddy, where you'll see the poses that I'm talking about: Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are

Competitive golf is all about gaining little edges that can make a big difference. Power Posing might be one of those edges.

Give it a try, what do you have to lose?

Love your practice, enjoy your golf, own your swing,

Tom

Tom's Bonus Tip: Putting - Balance

For the sake of simplicity, all advice on swings and drills is provided from a right handed perspective; lefties .... well, you know what to do!

You will go a long way towards developing a consistent stroke if you are in balance at address.

To me, this means keeping your weight evenly distributed between your toes and heels, and your weight distribution on each foot feathered 52% - 48% favoring the forward foot.

Love your practice, enjoy your golf, own your swing,

Tom
