Tom's Featured Tip: Swing Practice Outline

For simplicity, all advice on actual swings or drills is provided from a right handed perspective.

Striking a golf ball solidly is a skill, not a talent. Some are naturally better than others at it, but everyone can build skill towards the end result of good ball striking.

The best swing practice sequence to build that skill, in order, is as follows:
  1. Short swings, slow motion, no ball, executed with perfect technique
  2. Short swings, half speed, no ball, executed with perfect technique
  3. Short swings, normal speed, with ball, executed with perfect technique
  4. Full swings, slow motion, no ball, executed with perfect technique
  5. Full swings, half speed, no ball, executed with perfect technique
  6. Full swings, normal speed, with ball, executed with perfect technique
Make sure you have consistent tempo with every normal speed swing.

Don't rush to the next step in the process, be patient. The amount of time you'll spend on any one step will be different from person to person, and from practice session to practice session.

Don't advance a step until you have done the previous step perfectly. If the step involves actually striking a ball, strive for 7 out of 10 excellent strikes.

If you can develop the self discipline to practice this way on the range with full concentration, you'll get better. Period

Tom's Bonus Tip: Stress Reduction

For simplicity, all advice on actual swings or drills is provided from a right handed perspective.

If you want to reduce stress during your round, become an excellent chipper and putter.

The good news is that these strokes are the easy to develop because they are short movements.

No excuses - it's on you if you choose to not get good in this area of the game, so make it your mission to learn then practice these strokes.
