Impact Teez

Two Great Training Aids For Indoor or Outdoor Practice

The Divot Board

This is the most useful ball striking development training aid that I own.

Impact Teez

For simplicity, all advice on actual swings or drills is provided from a right handed perspective.

I'm always on the lookout for good training aids, and recently Impact Teez got my attention. They reminded me of a training aid that I used many years ago - but that one used a thick foam bar above the ball, and it was a visual distraction.

I contacted the company and they sent me a few of these to test out, here's what I found.

The training aid is an "L" shaped piece of either plastic or fiberglass - not sure which - that you stick in the ground or use on a mat with the available tee holder. It's marketed as a tool to help you fix your slice, stop topping the ball, and shot consistency.

As a teaching professional, I would rephrase that and say that it helps your swing path, swing arc height, and ball striking consistency.

It's simple, cheap, and effective - and it does all of the above PLUS I discovered one more benefit that the company apparently was not aware of: It helps your putting too!

FULL SWING

I tested it on myself and also with two high handicap students that had an outside to inside downswing path that produced a big slice.

I set up the Impact Teez per the instructions, the tee bar about 1/4" above the ball, with the ball centered under the bar.

I added an element of intentional focus about two inches in front of the ball (on the target side of the ball).

The first student had success very quickly - I think the vertical portion of the post made him swing more inside to out to avoid striking the post.

After four practice swings, he hit 8 out of 10 shots with no slice with his 7 iron.

The second student destroyed two of the Impact Teez (they come in a three pack and won't hurt your club) before he got the hang of it, then he hit 7 out of 10 shots with no slice.

The third student was me. I carry a low handicap, but my ball striking has been less than satisfactory lately. Normally when that happens, my head is moving around too much in my downswing - usually due to an improper lateral slide prior to impact. So I developed this drill for myself:
  1. On a mat, I set up the tee holder and impact tee.

  2. With an 8 iron, I executed ten rehearsal backswings in a row, stopping at the top to make sure my eyes still saw the ball centered under the Impact Tee. The swing pattern that I prefer requires that position at the top, but if my head rotates a bit at that point it's acceptable, and I would notice that with the Impact Teez.

  3. Then I swung slowly to impact and stopped at the ball, again checking that my eyes were seeing the ball centered directly under the Impact Tee. This is where I want to be at impact. If my head were to slide forward past that point at impact, I would notice it with the Impact Teez.

  4. Then I took ten normal swings at the ball, and I pured nine of them - great ball compression with "ball first" strikes.
THE NEW DISCOVERY

After I discovered that the Impact Teez helped me train my head to stay (laterally) still through impact, I decided to try it for the swing that requires an absolutely still head - putting.

You can do this on a putting green by sticking it in the ground, or on an artificial turf green with the tee holder.

I have a 17' x 34' artificial turf putting green in my backyard that I use for my own practice as well as for putting lessons. I set up the Impact Teez with a tee holder and stroked 100 putts making sure that I saw the ball staying centered under the Impact Teez until the strike.

My stroke felt smooth as silk, and the ball compressed consistently every time - meaning that it had a consistent rollout every time.

I'll definitely use this tool at a putting lesson whenever I have a student with a wandering head, as well as for my own practice just to keep my stroke solid.

THE TAKEAWAY

If you have a slice, if your ball striking is inconsistent, or if your putting is not up to par, this tool definitely will help you get on track, and it's certainly inexpensive enough to give it a try.

Here's the website: Impact Teez I don't get anything if you buy, I'm recommending this product based on performance and bang for the buck only.

Try it, you'll like it.
