The Best Training Aid For Indoor or Outdoor Practice
The Divot Board
This is the most useful ball striking development training aid that I own.

For simplicity, all advice on actual swings or drills is provided from a right handed perspective.
I'm still trying to squeeze in as much golf as I can before the really cold weather kicks in. If you're doing the same, here's a quick and simple tip to give you more carry off the tee.
Tee it up higher.
So ... how much does an inch higher ball height on the tee actually matter in golf?
It actually equals about 42 feet or 14 more yards on your drive.
Here's the difference between a half inch tee, and an inch and a half tee.
It's about 14 yards longer by going with a inch and a half tee height compared to the half inch tee height.
It also results in higher launch angle, lower spin, and a better angle of attack.
The only negatives that I've found with my own game when I do this are:
- Possible loss of control of curvature, for me that's a draw.
When you tee it up high, you need to play the ball a little more forward in your stance. So you need to take care that the outward tangent point of your swing circle isn't reached before you make contact. In other words, make sure that you are not cutting across the ball or you'll end up with a high slice and lose distance.
The ideal flight with the ball teed high for more carry is a high trajectory, boring straight ball, or a high trajectory, boring draw.
- Make sure that you hit the ball on the ascending (upward) part of your swing circle.
There can be a tendency to swing flatter when the ball gets elevated on the tee, just be aware of that and make sure that you are swinging up at the ball at the strike.
Try it, you'll like it.
