The Best Training Aid For Indoor or Outdoor Practice
The Divot Board
This is the most useful ball striking development training aid that I own.
Execution
For simplicity, all advice on actual swings or drills is provided from a right handed perspective.
I recently saw an interview with Claude Harmon III, and he provided some very simple advice for improving your scoring.
His main message? We spend way too much time on technique and not enough on execution.
That really hit home with me.
Claude’s advice was simple but powerful: put in the work. Focus on execution and build this skill. It's what the best players do every day.
Obviously, technique is important, but even the best players in the world are always refining it.
Execution, however, is where the real separation in talent happens.
Execution is defined as the act of putting your plan into action after you've made your swing decisions. It's characterized by minimal thinking and allowing your subconscious to take over.
Here are five tips for better execution when you play:
- Commit to the shot: Fully commit to the shot you're about to hit.
- Have a pre-shot routine: Have a set routine that you use before every shot.
- Trust the process: Believe in your preparation and accept the outcome.
- Transition quickly: Transition quickly from thinking about your shot to executing it.
- Walk into the ball: Walk into the ball ready to hit it, rather than spending a lot of time over the ball.
