Golf Tip - Swing Speed - Grip Pressure

This week's tip is another simple tip, an easy one to work into 
your golf game right away.

Everyone wants to get the maximum distance for their swing, and 
this generally depends on four factors:
1) swing speed
2) squareness of clubface contact with the ball
3) correct clubface swing path
4) correct release of everything at impact

This week's tip deals with swing speed.

The killer for swing speed is grip tension.  
Let me repeat that, the killer for swing speed is grip tension.

Here's one drill to help reduce tension in your grip:
just prior to your takeaway, grip your club as tightly as you possibly 
can for about two seconds, then let your hands relax completely.  
Then, take your grip with light to medium pressure and execute your 
swing.  You will find that your swing and release will flow much easier 
than if you did not do the drill before swinging.

Here's an equipment tip to help you reduce grip pressure:
keep fresh and clean grips on your clubs.  Slippery grips 
cause you to grip them more tightly, just to hang on to the club.
If you have worn or dirty grips on your clubs, either get them 
re-gripped or clean them, whichever is necessary.  I scrub mine 
once every two weeks with scalding hot water and any good 
household cleaning solution, then I rinse them thoroughly with hot 
water, dry them with a towel, and let them air dry overnight.  
I re-grip my clubs at least once or twice per season, and currently I am 
using the Golf Pride half cord half rubber grip, they have amazing feel.
