It may seem a little boring and will never be as “sexy” as blasting your drive another 30 yards down the fairway but at the end of the day the satisfaction of shooting low scores will always last longer than a long drive. Enjoy, Tom ==================================================== Golf Tip: Die The Ball at the Hole? ==================================================== What's the best speed to stroke a putt on relatively makeable putts? Should you roll it at a speed that takes it about 17" past the hole - btw that's the speed I teach - or should you die the ball at the hole? There are arguments to be made for both sides. 17" past the hole - will allow your ball to retain it's line as it travels through a virtual minefield of footprints, ball marks, spike marks, etc. Dave Pelz researched this fact - that a foursome leaves on average about 500 footprints on the green, and 250 of those are within a 6 ft. radius of the hole. - will allow your ball to get to the hole more often - may generate more birdies, may generate more 3 putts Die it at the hole - will allow an occasional side door drop into the hole - may generate less birdies, may generate less 3 putts But here's the biggie against "die it at the hole": there is a plus or minus tolerance in distance associated with this. This means that you will find yourself short of the hole almost 50 % of the time. Bottom line: You won't sink the putt if the ball does not reach the hole Train yourself to roll it at a speed that would carry the ball 17" past the hole Enjoy, Tom
