Whether it's for a birdie, a par, or $100,000, don't take it for granted. - Frank Thomas - I had a comment from a reader - Vince F. - regarding more course management advice, and I'll be sending something out in the next newsletter or two, but for now I'll pass along the advice I give my golf team at GCC, it's short, sweet, and easy to remember: DON'T TAKE DUMB SHOTS Enjoy, Tom ==================================================== Golf Tip: Attitude of Gratitude ==================================================== IMHO, a great attitude has to precede great golf, not follow it. You can't wait around to play good and then be happy. You have to find some gratitude first, and then good play will often emerge from that (assuming technique and talent are both aligned as well). No one demonstrates this approach better than Matt Kucher, yesterday's Barclays winner. Here's a good example of a great attitude in his own words: "I love the game. I love playing golf. I love practicing. I love everything about it. I love having chances. And even when the chances don't go your way, I think it makes you tougher, makes you stronger. If you don't get beaten up by it, if you keep on stepping forward, all those close calls, they're going to make you better for opportunities in the future. It's fun. I have a great time out here. I have my family traveling. I've got a great family. I enjoy life as a professional golfer. I think it's a great life. It's a great way to make a living. And I feel awfully fortunate." Pretty refreshing to hear all of that from a professional athlete - not a hint of entitlement. You've got to think that this sort of perspective, gratitude, and appreciation has to be worth at least a couple of shots a round wouldn't you? Even though his perpetual grin kind of drives me nuts, I'm going to take a cue from Kucher and practice joy and gratitude this week ... and see if that doesn't save me a couple strokes in my game in the process. Enjoy, Tom
