Tom's Notes At the top of the backswing, your extended and side tilted posture should feel like it's leaning slightly toward the target. Some of my students say they feel as if their head is in front of the ball on iron shots - and "covering the ball" like this is fine for scoring irons. Overleaning towards the target as you tilt is undesirable because you will block everything to the right. We tilt and extend the spine to maintain your angle of inclination, so that your shoulders will turn on a correct plane in relation to your spine. It's actually a centered pivot, with a bias towards moving the weight forward, never back. It's what the spine does to maintain a stable turning axis when you keep your head still and turn your shoulders on plane in an angled, downward circle. Slide 8 - Weight Shift |
