When a student takes lessons from me we develop a relationship. Part of that relationship includes me responding to their text, email, or phone call questions. Most of the questions are swing, equipment, or training aid related. My answer to a training aid question is usually pretty simple: if the training aid provides feedback, it may be worth the money. If it does all the work for you and provides no feedback, don't waste your money. A great example of a training aid that provides great feedback is the 48" driveway marker rod referred to in todays featured tip. If you swing incorrectly, it bangs into your side. That's feedback, and on top of that it only costs about $2 at Home Depot. PLUS you can use it as alignment tool when you hit balls at the range. Good feedback, inexpensive, and two uses - you just hit the training aid trifecta baby! On the other hand, I don't like those big circle pvc swing trainers that have you swing a club or a simulated club on a guided path. I don't really see or feel any realistic feedback there, and they are expensive to boot. Don't get me wrong, I'll spend whatever it takes if I find a training aid that I really like, provides feedback, and that I think is effective. But it there's no feedback it's a no go for me, and it should be the same for you.
